I shut my eyes in order to see.

Who I am

Hello there! I’m Paul Briginshaw, a visual artist and illustrator based in Edinburgh.

I graduated from Northumbria University with a BA (hons) in Fine Art achieving a 2:1. Since then, I have been developing my craft and exploring my main creative points of interest: painting, drawing and illustration.

Painting

My flavour of painting is surrealist and often features portraiture. This is such a passion of mine - it really helps me make sense of my place in the world. Many of my paintings have hidden meanings, I believe in explaining fine art to a certain point- after that, it detracts from the process of thinking.

Drawing

I’ve sketched my whole life and it has always come very naturally to me. I’ve often been told my drawings have a sculptural edge, this is my USP! Over the years I have sketched hundreds of pieces- predominantly portraits but now am adding animal works to my portfolio.

Illustration

My illustrative work is all about story telling. Ever since I was young I’ve written and illustrated story books. I think we need to be taken somewhere else through imaginative drawings - I don’t know where I’d be without a pencil guiding my hand.
